Denisov stressed that Russia views the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan as a clear provocation by the United States.
“Russia’s fundamental position remains unchanged: we proceed from the fact that there is only one China, that the PRC government is the only legitimate government representing all of China, and Taiwan is an integral part of China,” RIA Novosti quotes him as saying in an interview with the China Daily newspaper.
Commenting on the military exercises of the Chinese army around Taiwan, the Russian diplomat noted that "the Chinese side has the right to take any measures necessary to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity with regard to the Taiwan issue."
In addition, Denisov called on the United States to abandon actions that undermine stability in the region.
On August 2, the Chinese Ministry of Defense announced that the Chinese army will conduct a series of military measures as a countermeasure in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said China's military exercises near Taiwan are China's "sovereign right".
