In search of buyers, Alteo, world leader in specialty aluminas, assured Thursday that it now complies with all legal environmental standards concerning its liquid discharges in the Mediterranean Sea, after having benefited for several months from exemptions for two last parameters.

“Alteo started up the last water treatment unit, during the summer as planned, to achieve the water quality objectives required in particular for the COD and BOD5 parameters by the deadline of August 30, 2020, in accordance with the prefectural decree ”, announced a spokesperson for the plant based in Gardanne, about thirty kilometers from Marseille.

Initially, Alteo, which performs liquid discharges in the Calanques National Park, had until June 8 to comply with the regulations for these last two indices. Considering that "the work had to be interrupted because of the Covid", the prefect had given him additional time until August 30.
