Today, Friday, shops and shopping centers in Dubai began applying the 25 fils tariff on plastic bags, according to the decision issued by the Dubai Municipality, with the aim of preserving the environment, and legalizing the use of single-use bags, in preparation for its complete ban.

According to the municipality, the list of products to which the 25 fils tariff will be applied includes “all single-use bags used for transporting goods at the point of purchase, including all bags with a thickness of less than 57 micrometers and made of plastic, paper, biodegradable plastic and biodegradable plant materials.”

With regard to the products excluded from the decision, the municipality identified eight types of products outside the decision, including “bags with a thickness of more than 57 micrometers, bags of medicines from pharmacies, roller bags for vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, bread bags, wheat bags, trash bags of all sizes, and Electronic gadgets, laundry bags.
