The Cameroon team settled the original time in the second leg in favor of a clean goal, scored by Eric Maxime Choupo-Moting in the 22nd minute, but Ahmed Touba scored the equalizer for the hosts in the 118th minute after the two teams resorted to extra time before Karl Oko Ekambi scored the winning goal and qualified for Cameroon in the fourth minute of the time stoppage time for the second overtime period.

Egypt had also lost against Senegal and spoiled the joy of completing the Arab joy after Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Morocco had qualified alongside Qatar, "the host country of the World Cup."
