"European Commission President Von der Leyen has arrived in Ukraine to discuss its bid to join the bloc," AFP said in a statement.
Earlier, the European Parliament called for granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
At the same time, Italy said that most countries are against such a decision.
The French Foreign Ministry also did not rule out that Ukraine's accession to the EU could take up to 20 years.
The European Commission will discuss the issue of granting the country the status of a candidate for the European Union on June 17.
