A year in prison for a Jordanian who sold his kidney for 12 thousand dollars
A Magistrate’s Court in Irbid, northern Jordan, sentenced a Jordanian youth to one year in prison after it was proven that his kidney was sold to a Gulf woman in Turkey for $12,000. The court also decided to imprison the woman, her husband and her brother in absentia for 8 months.
According to the Jordanian "Al-Ghad", the court, in its appealable decision, convicted the young man of the crime of donating the organ in exchange for a financial compensation, contrary to the provisions of Article 4/c of the Law on the Use of Human Body Organs, and sentenced him, pursuant to the provisions of Article (10) of the same law, to imprisonment for one year and fees.
The court assigned the defendants the charges of (donating an organ in exchange for a financial compensation with the intention of profit, contrary to the provisions of Article (4/c) of the Law on the Use of Organs of the Human Body, and incitement to donate an organ in exchange for a financial consideration or with the intention of profit in contravention of the provisions of Article (4/c) of the Law on the Use of Organs human body.
According to the facts of the case concluded by the Irbid Court, last March, information was received from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit that the defendant traveled to Turkey and sold his kidney there for an amount of 12,000 US dollars. He saw an ad on Facebook asking for donors of Arab nationalities, and he contacted the author of the publication, traveled to Ankara and met a Jordanian person there, then the defendant sold his kidney to the defendant, in the presence of her husband and brother, and they helped him submit the necessary papers to the medical committee there, and then promised him that they They will find him a job, and the papers will be sent to the court and the prosecution will take place.
