A 52-year-old French teacher living in Indonesia was found dead Friday morning in the village of Peyriac-de-mer, in the Corbières Maritimes, near the Mediterranean coast, we learned this Saturday from a source close to the investigation . Her husband, of American nationality, arrested at the last minute in the boarding area of ​​Toulouse airport, admitted the facts, said the prosecution.

During police custody, which was extended, the man admitted "the facts by indicating that he had stabbed his wife twice", Laure Kruger, said prosecutor Marie-Agnès Joly in a statement. “Given the couple's usual place of life in Indonesia, it is unknown to the investigation services and the French judicial authorities, in particular for domestic violence”. The husband will be presented Sunday to an examining magistrate for his indictment.

The body of the victim, "hidden in a rainwater outlet, on the public road 150 m from the marital residence" was then quickly discovered by the gendarmes.

This case brings to at least 40 the number of suspected feminicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP identified at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average.
