A 1973 Citroën SM from the gendarmerie's rapid intervention brigade was auctioned off this Sunday in Breteuil-sur-Noye (Oise), reports Actu Oise.

This is a very rare car since, in total, only five vehicles of this type belonged to the gendarmerie, including two which were already listed.

Estimated between 15,000 and 20,000 euros, it was finally awarded at 28,500 euros.

The story between the Citroën SM and the gendarmerie began in 1972. At the time, the police chose to use this car for its speed.

This model could indeed reach 228 km/h thanks to its V6 Maserati engine of 170 hp.

Two copies were then purchased, then three more in 1973.

Made for five years

The car was finally manufactured from 1970 to 1975. After this date, due to the oil shock and speed limits, Citroën wanted to stop its manufacture.

This gives today a particularly sought-after collector's car.
