On the morning of the 20th, there was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake with an epicenter in the Noto region of Ishikawa prefecture, and we observed shaking with a seismic intensity of over 5 in Suzu City.

In the Noto region, after the earthquake that observed a violent tremor with a seismic intensity of 6 lower in Suzu City on the afternoon of the 19th, seismic activity has continued to be active. I am calling to be careful.

According to the Meteorological Agency, at around 10:30 am on the 20th, there was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake with an epicenter at a depth of 14 km in the Noto region of Ishikawa prefecture. We observed a shaking with a seismic intensity of 4 in Noto Town, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Furthermore, before 3:00 pm, there was an earthquake in Suzu City that observed shaking with a seismic intensity of 4.

In the Noto region, on the afternoon of the 19th, after an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 that observed a tremor with a seismic intensity of less than 6 occurred in Suzu City, seismic activity was active, and by 5 pm on the 20th, tremors felt by the body with a seismic intensity of 1 or higher were observed. There have been 12 earthquakes.

The Japan Meteorological Agency calls attention to earthquakes with shaking with a seismic intensity of less than 6 for about a week.

In addition, since seismic activity has continued for more than a year in the Noto region, it is thought that activities will continue for the time being, and we are calling for measures to be taken against shaking, such as fixing furniture and ensuring the safety of bedrooms.

Japan Meteorological Agency "Active place Change depending on the time"

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a series of earthquakes have occurred locally around Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, but their locations have changed slightly depending on the time of year.

The Japan Meteorological Agency analyzes active areas by dividing them into four areas.

Since December, it has occurred one after another in the southern region, and after that, the active place has moved clockwise, so to speak.

In addition to the active activity in the western part of Suzu City around the beginning of last year, there have been a series of earthquakes in the northern part of Suzu City since last spring and in the eastern side from around summer.

In this area at the northeastern end of the Noto Peninsula, relatively large-scale earthquakes have occurred one after another. Both a magnitude 5.4 earthquake that observed a weakness and a magnitude 5.0 earthquake that observed a seismic intensity of 5 upper on the morning of the 20th have occurred in this area.

The epicenter on the morning of the 20th is about 5 kilometers east of the epicenter on the 19th.

Currently, the center of activity is in the northeastern and northern parts of Suzu City, but according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, seismic activity may be temporarily active in the southern and western parts of Suzu City, which was first activated. However, it cannot be said that the activity has subsided.

In addition, since the epicenter of a series of earthquakes in the Noto region is relatively shallow, the tremors tend to be large, and it is necessary to prepare for severe tremors throughout the region.

The important point to protect yourself is

The Noto region of Ishikawa prefecture, where strong shaking continues.

Fixing furniture is important to protect yourself from a series of earthquakes.

We asked Professor Emeritus Nobuo Fukuwa of Nagoya University, who is familiar with the effects of the earthquake on buildings.

1. Do not put furniture in the bedroom

Avoid furniture in your bedroom as much as possible, as it can be vulnerable when you are sleeping and it is difficult to protect yourself immediately in the event of an earthquake.

When placing furniture, it is important to place it on the sleeping duvet so that it does not fall over.

2. Fixing furniture If you can't do it yourself, ask the people around you to help you.

Even for fixing furniture, I think that there are some people who cannot install the equipment by themselves in elderly households living alone.

In that case, ask the people around you to help you, such as by asking a young person or a care helper who lives nearby.

If you have the power to help yourself and there are elderly people living alone around you, please ask if the furniture is fixed.

3. Seismic shelters and disaster prevention beds are also available for buildings with low earthquake resistance.

Houses built to old seismic standards prior to 1981 can collapse in a major earthquake, but seismic diagnosis and seismic retrofitting can be costly and time consuming.

In the unlikely event that the building collapses, measures such as installing seismic shelters and disaster prevention beds are also effective in order to secure a safe space inside the building.

4. Fix furniture before heavy rain

Furthermore, Professor Emeritus Fukuwa is concerned about the time of full-scale heavy rain.

Professor Emeritus Fukuwa said, "In the worst case, the effects of the earthquake and heavy rain may overlap and the damage may spread. I want you to prepare for what you can do right now, such as fixing furniture before the heavy rain season." I'm calling.

Fix the chest of drawers, cupboard, bookshelf, etc. in the living room or kitchen so that the main body itself does not fall over.

It is also important to take measures to prevent the drawers and things inside from popping out.

Also, in the event of a major earthquake or heavy rain, do not place anything in the corridors or entrances that will prevent you from evacuating so that you can evacuate immediately.

5. Evacuate early if it rains even in areas where the ground is loose

Due to a series of earthquakes, the ground is loose in the Noto region, so there is a risk that it will collapse with a little rain in some places.

▽ If it rains, spend time away from the slopes. ▽ Please pay close attention to the information from the Japan Meteorological Agency and local governments, and try to evacuate as soon as possible before the situation worsens.
