The Spanish newspaper, "Confidencial", revealed an audio conversation between former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, regarding the Ballon d'Or award in 2020.
Sky News Arabia quoted the Spanish newspaper that Ramos asked Rubiales, during the conversation, for his support to win the ball. The gold medal in 2020, saying: “You know I never asked you for anything, but if I wanted to do that today, it is because I think this year has been special in terms of the offers that I gave.”
Ramos added: "I want you to help me in any way you can, and use your contacts at (UEFA) to support my candidacy and win the award. I will be grateful to you for the rest of my life.
Winning the award is not just for me, but because I think Spanish football deserves it.”
It is noteworthy that the 2020 Golden Ball award was canceled due to the Corona pandemic, and in that year Ramos starred with Real Madrid before moving later to Paris Saint-Germain last July with a contract that extends until June 2023.
