A mysterious hepatitis epidemic is spreading among children around the world

About 190 mysterious cases of hepatitis C infection have been detected among children in the world, most of them for children under 10 years old, according to what the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced today.

The center said that the disease first appeared in Britain this month, where 111 cases were detected, and since that time the disease has been detected in at least 12 countries around the world.

Andrea Amon, director of the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters that the number includes 40 cases in the European Union and the European Economic Area, and there are cases in the United States and Israel as well.

The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention is examining cases along with local authorities and the World Health Organization.

The World Health Organization said 17 children needed liver transplants due to the recent infections, and one had died.
