A 37-year-old man was indicted for murder and imprisoned after the death by drowning of a homeless person in Rennes, we learned from the prosecution.
The facts occurred on Wednesday evening on the banks of the Ille-et-Rance canal in the Bourg l'Evêque district.
During an altercation on the background of alcohol, a homeless man from Benin was voluntarily pushed into the water.
The lifeless body of the victim, born in 1982, was found the following day at noon by the emergency services a few meters from the presumed place of the fall.
The same day, a man suspected of having pushed the homeless man into the water was arrested and taken into custody.
Sentenced for violence just before the tragedy
During the hearings, "he said he was attacked by the victim, having pushed her and having had no intention of homicide", indicates Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes.
Aged 37, he was indicted for "murder by a person acting in a state of obvious intoxication" and remanded in custody.
He faces life imprisonment.
Just before the tragedy, the individual had been sentenced to eighteen months in prison, including nine months, for having stabbed his brother.
