A man was indicted for "aggravated unintentional injuries" on Monday by the prosecutor's office in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).

He is suspected of having run over a teenager who was cycling in Anglet, on the night of Friday to Saturday, reports

Sud-Ouest

.

The young cyclist had been mown down in front of a friend by a motorist who had fled.

The witness of the accident was able to describe the vehicle to the police.

A call for witnesses had thus been launched by the Bayonne police station.

This call made it possible to identify the wrecked car in a residence in the city.

The suspect was therefore arrested at his mother's home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Speeding and hit and run

A judicial inquiry was opened and the 23-year-old man was placed under judicial supervision during the investigation.

He is under two aggravating circumstances: speeding and hit and run.

The 14-year-old, victim of a serious head trauma, had been hospitalized in serious condition.

He is still under medical supervision and has been placed in a coma.

However, his vital prognosis would not be engaged, specifies the regional daily.
