China News Agency, Taipei, May 3 (Xinhua): An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred at 11:24 am on the eastern waters of Taiwan on the 3rd.

  According to the Taiwan Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was 70.7 kilometers northeast of Taitung County Government, which is the eastern waters of Taiwan. The focal depth is 40.4 kilometers, and the whole station has a sense of earthquake.

  The China Seismic Network determined that the earthquake was 5.4.

  The largest earthquakes in all parts of Taiwan are: Taitung County, Hualien County, Chiayi County, Nantou County, Tainan City, Changhua County, Yunlin County Level 4, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Taichung City, Yilan County, Miaoli County, Hsinchu Level 3, Penghu County Level 2, Taoyuan City, New Taipei City Level 1.

  According to reports from Taiwan media such as China Times and United News Network, the person in charge of the Taiwan Earthquake Prediction Center said that the earthquake was the largest in Taiwan since this year, and aftershocks with magnitude 4 or greater on the Richter scale cannot be ruled out within a week.
