German football club Union Berlin revealed an ambitious plan that aims to return the fans to the stadiums again in the next season, by conducting tests of the new Corona Virus (Covid-19), for all the fans attending the matches.
The club defended its plan, stressing that this step comes in response to the request of the fans of the team.
"People are appealing to us every day to make a return to them (to the stands)," club spokesman Christian Arbeat said in comments to German channel RBB on Saturday.
He added: "We want to work for that. This is the basis of our thinking."
The club said in a statement issued on Friday evening: "Union Berlin is working to carry out corona checks for its employees and for all the 22,000 and 12 ticket holders on the day of any match for the team."
He added: "Entry to the stadium will be permitted through the presentation of the match ticket and a negative result of the examination that did not pass more than 24 hours."
Union Berlin, which plans to pay for the tests, added that it had started "initial talks" with potential partners to implement the plan, but that approval from health officials in Berlin must be obtained.
The capital Berlin will witness a ban on holding any events that witness large gatherings, which will continue until October 24, knowing that the new season of the German Bundesliga (Bundesliga) will start on September 18.
"We will explain our perception very clearly," Arbitt said. "Of course we will discuss everything with the health authorities and the Berlin Council."
She added, "We will not go ahead on our own, but we will work to find a way to ensure safety largely."
