A 26-year-old man, a former gendarme, was indicted on Friday for homicide on a spouse and placed in pre-trial detention, suspected of having killed his partner in the Somme with several stab wounds, we learned from the prosecution from Amiens.
Wednesday morning, he went on his own to the Hallencourt gendarmerie, claiming to transport his 20-year-old ex-partner, injured, in his car. The gendarmes then discovered the body of the victim there.
The autopsy performed Thursday showed that the death was due to "multiple stab wounds to the heart," reported the prosecution. During his custody, this former gendarme "admitted to having struck him" but denied "any intention to kill", according to the same source.
A first conviction by the courts in 2017
His career in the gendarmerie had ended when he was first sentenced by justice in 2017, for degradation by fire, in a context of domestic violence with another woman. This is the 42nd suspected feminicide since the start of the year, according to an AFP count.
Thursday, a 43rd case was added to this macabre census: a woman in her twenties was killed by her husband, also with several stab wounds, at her home in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). In 2019, AFP identified at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average.
