Rather spared so far from the epidemic, Brittany has had to deal with a sharp increase in contamination for the past few weeks.

With an incidence rate of 1,863 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up 321 points over one week, Brittany is also the French region most affected by this sixth wave of Covid-19.

At Rennes-Vezin prison, a cluster has been detected in recent days, we learned from the prison administration.

The first cases appeared a fortnight ago when a trial of twenty-four migrant smugglers was being held before the specialized interregional court (Jirs) of Rennes.

A massive screening was then carried out within the prison establishment.

A total of sixty inmates and five officers tested positive.

Mandatory mask and suspended activities

After the discovery of this cluster, the administration, in conjunction with the health authorities, decided to strengthen health measures.

All prisoners who tested positive were thus placed in solitary confinement in a dedicated section of the prison.

The mask is also compulsory again inside the prison where all indoor activities have been suppressed.
