According to the representative of Fortuna's lessee, Mezhregiontruboprovodstroy (MRTS), the company "does not intend to provide the Fortuna pipe-laying barge for completing the construction of the Russian export gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, which has become the target of US sanctions."

They added that they are not the owner of the barge, but lease it "under a bareboat charter agreement for use in other projects."

Earlier it was reported that the ship "Fortuna" entered the territorial waters of Denmark, where the unfinished section of the gas pipeline is located.

In July, Nord Stream 2 AG received permission from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) to complete Nord Stream 2 in its waters using anchor positioned pipe-laying vessels.
