A 20-year-old man living in Avignon (Vaucluse) appeared this Friday before the criminal court for apology for terrorism.

A history student, he was arrested last April.

The young man was watched after a report from the prefect of Vaucluse to the public prosecutor, reports

In question, his messages published on social networks.

The student made several references to the Islamic State, including translating a press release.

Videos showing beheadings or executions were also discovered on his computer.

In court, the defendant explained that he defended oppressed Muslim peoples but assured that he did not support IS or Al-Qaeda.

A psychiatric assessment did not reveal any psychiatric pathology or depressive disorder, only psychoaffective immaturity and close ties to his mother.

The man, in detention since the events, was finally sentenced to 18 months in prison, 12 of which were accompanied by a probationary sentence of two years.

His sentence will be arranged under an electronic bracelet.
