More than 900 women lacked a place at a maternity clinic in Stockholm County in 2020 when it was time to give birth. Places had to be resolved urgently, and in several cases patient safety suffered, says the Midwifery Association. This is the first time that the Stockholm Region reports these statistics.
Just over 28,000 children are born a year in the Stockholm region.

But for the first time ever, the Stockholm region has also investigated how many women lacked a place and could not be referred anywhere when it was time to give birth.
It is about 929 women - in just one year.
