OAG, an international provider of airport and airline data, revealed that airlines operating in the UAE's airports will, in total, operate more than 619.8 thousand seats on flights during the week that began on April 26, compared to about 172.7 thousand seats in the UAE. The same previous week of 2020, with a growth rate of about 259%.

The significant increase in growth rates is due to the coincidence of that period last year with the temporary suspension of scheduled passenger flights at the country's airports following the "Covid-19" pandemic, as seat capacity at that time recorded low levels, mostly concentrated on evacuation flights.

The corporation stated that airlines at the country's airports occupied more than 2.65 million seats during March 2021, compared to about 2.72 million seats scheduled this April.

Corporation data, of which Emirates Today obtained a copy, showed that airlines in the Middle East region will operate more than 2.3 million seats this week, with a growth rate of about 100%, compared to the same week of last year, pointing out that the UAE market is acquiring About 27% of the total seat capacity occupied by airlines in the region as a whole.

It indicated that the main figures indicated that the capacity of global airlines witnessed a slight recovery to 61.9 million seats this week, an increase of 1.2%, noting that the airlines canceled another million seats for the remainder of April last week, which raises concern about the cancellation of about 13.3 million additional seats for the month of May, and 12.5 million for the month of June 2021, or nearly 26 million seats in the next two months.
