The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, held a meeting with the heads of fishermen's associations and a group of fishermen, during which they discussed a number of issues and challenges related to the affairs of the profession and the development of the marine fishing sector in general.

The meeting witnessed the Ministry's provision of fuel support to fishermen, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), in order to contribute to helping fishermen cope with the current rise in fuel prices and reduce operational costs.

The ministry has designed a "points system" to identify qualified candidates to receive support, and to identify those with the highest points in the evaluation.

Points are allocated to fishermen based on a number of criteria, such as their total income, whether they have ever obtained subsidized marine engines, the date they obtained these engines, the date of registration of fishing boats in the Ministry's records, the level of repetition of fishing practice, and the number of family members of fishermen registered in the family book.

According to the new system, 478 fishermen will benefit this year.

Fishing, in addition to regulating the fisherman's waiver of the fishing boat license, in addition to amending the requirements for renewing fishing boat licenses.

Al Muhairi stressed that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment attaches great importance to ensuring the sustainability of the fishing profession, especially as this field contributes to enhancing food security and the UAE's GDP and creating job opportunities.

She also praised the role of fishermen in the development of the country and their compliance with the rules and regulations imposed by the government to protect the local fish stocks.
