A 30-year-old man who threatened to disseminate a video of his body exposed if he did not break up with his current girlfriend by pretending to be a stranger was sentenced to prison.
The Busan District Court West Branch Criminal Division 1 (Judge Lee Jin-hyeok) announced that he had sentenced a 30-year-old man to 1 year in prison for violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (threat using filmed materials, etc.).
He also ordered the completion of a 40-hour sexual assault treatment program.
Mr. A is accused of threatening with obscene video relating to Mr. B, which she had, when she met her new boyfriend Mr. C after her ex-girlfriend Mr. B broke up with him in April last year.
At that time, Mr. A hid her identity and pretended to be her lover, who had been dating Mr. C in the past, and sent a message to Mr. B saying 'If I do not break up with Mr. C, I will spread obscene videos'.
When Mr. B did not respond to this, Mr. A captured some of the video he had and sent it.
Mr. A and Mr. B worked in the same place even after they broke up, but since the crime was conducted through SNS, Mr. B could not even imagine that Mr. A was the blackmailer.
When Mr. B complained of suffering, Mr. A reiterated, "I did a good job suing the police, but wouldn't it be better to withdraw and file a complaint again after calming down?"
The court said, "The victim is still experiencing mental pain, and Mr. A has not been forgiven for his crime."
However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "The accused admits to this crime and the possibility of re-offending is not high."
