21 June 2020Yesterday evening a sailing boat, flying the Ukrainian flag, with 21 migrants on board arrived from the coast of Santa Maria di Leuca, in the province of Lecce, intercepted by patrol boats of the Harbor Master's Office, was escorted by the Guardia di Finanza, in the port of the Salento town.

All migrants are in fair health. They were welcomed and assisted by the staff of the Red Cross, then they were accompanied to the very first reception center 'Don Tonino Bello' in Otranto where the identification activities which ended at 4 am this morning were carried out by the staff of the Police Station of Otranto and the Immigration Office of the Lecce Police Headquarters.

9 Iranians, 10 Iraqis and one Turkestan person, all adult men, have landed. Also on board is an unaccompanied 11-year-old Iranian girl. The smuggler, a 38-year-old Georgian man, was arrested by the Guardia di Finanza. The staff of the Anti-Immigration Pool also intervened on the spot for the relevant activity. In the morning, the migrants will be transferred to the 'Il venticello' facility in Santa Cesarea Terme where they will remain in quarantine according to the procedures laid down by the Covid emergency.
