The Chinese men’s basketball team shared the Australian team, the Japanese team and the Chinese Taipei team in Asia-region B. Group.
The 2023 Basketball World Cup will be jointly organized by Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. This is the first time in history that a multinational basketball World Cup will be jointly organized.
There will be 80 teams competing for 32 places in the Basketball World Cup through 420 qualifiers, of which 16 teams from the Asia Region will participate in the competition.
By drawing lots, the Chinese men's basketball team entered the Asia-Pacific Group B. The opponents in the same group include the Japanese team, the Chinese Taipei team and the Australian team.
The other three groups in the Asia-region are: A group of New Zealand, South Korea, the Philippines and India; C group of Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia; D group of Iran, Kazakhstan, Syria and Bahrain team.
The top three in each group will enter the next stage of the competition.
In Group B, the overall strength of the Australian team is higher than that of the Chinese team, and the Chinese Taipei team is not as strong as the Chinese team.
The Japanese team depends on what lineup they choose to play. Because they automatically qualify for the World Cup finals, they are likely to focus on training teams.
Since the top three in the group can enter the next stage of the game, the schedule of the group stage is not very difficult for the Chinese team.
There are a total of 8 places in the Asian region. The Philippines and Japan as the host teams will automatically advance to the finals. Indonesia needs to enter the top eight of the 2022 Asian Cup to automatically get a seat in the finals. Therefore, it is reserved for other teams in the Asian region. The number of qualifying places is 5 or 6.
In the second stage, 12 teams will be divided into two groups to compete for qualifying places.
The men's basketball world preliminaries will be competed in 6 window periods in 4 regions in Africa, America, Asia/Oceania and Europe within 15 months.
Each window period will last for 9 days, and the first window period will be held from November 22 to 30, 2021.
