[Explanation] 2021 China-ASEAN Digital Economy Development and Cooperation Forum opened in Wuhan on July 16.

Heads of digital economy authorities of ASEAN countries, officials from ASEAN embassies and consulates in China, experts and scholars in the field of China's digital economy, and representatives of leading enterprises in the industry discussed the development direction and prospects of cooperation between China and ASEAN in the field of digital economy.

  [Explanation] Xu Kemin, chief economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the opening ceremony that the digital economy has become a key driving force for the global economic recovery under the epidemic, and it is also an important direction for the future development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

Xu Kemin believes that China and ASEAN are highly complementary in the field of digital economy, with fruitful cooperation results and great development potential.

In the future, the two parties can strengthen cooperation in areas such as advancing the construction of digital infrastructure, expanding investment in the digital economy, deepening digital anti-epidemic and epidemic prevention, and promoting digital skills training.

  This year we will jointly formulate an action plan with ASEAN on the implementation of the China-ASEAN Digital Economy Partnership, 2021 to 2025, which will lead China and ASEAN’s digital economy cooperation in the next five years. The cooperation between the two parties in the digital economy will further build A close China-ASEAN community with a shared future will build a higher level of China-ASEAN strategic partnership and inject strong impetus.

In 2020, despite the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the bilateral trade volume between China and ASEAN has grown against the trend, achieving a historic breakthrough in becoming each other's largest trading partners.
