About 16,000 sheep aboard the hull drowned when a cargo ship overloaded and sank off the coast of Sudan, North Africa.

According to AFP and Bloomberg News, this incident occurred on the morning of the 12th local time, right after departure from Suaquin Port on the Red Sea side.

The crew was rescued, but all the sheep on board were buried.

The sheep were to be exported to Saudi Arabia and slaughtered.

Port Authority officials were concerned about the impact on port operations and possible environmental impacts.

A senior Sudanese port authority official said, on condition of anonymity, that the vessel in the accident was 'Badr 1'.

In doing so, she revealed that 15,800 sheep were on board the ship, which could carry 9,000 sheep.
