The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mattar Muhammad Al Tayer, confirmed the readiness of the infrastructure for road networks and the mass transit system, to provide a unique, easy and fast transportation service for participants and visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai, from various regions of the emirate, and the rest of the emirates of the country. The authority has 15 projects to serve the Expo 2020, with a value exceeding 15 billion dirhams, the most important of which is the 15-kilometre long route of the Dubai Metro, which includes seven stations, the purchase of 50 trains with new interior designs that provide more comfort for passengers, with greater capacity, and the implementation of a wide network of roads. And nine bridged intersections, providing more than 200 public transport buses, according to the latest international standards, allocating 18 stations and bus stops distributed over vital areas in Dubai and major cities in the various emirates of the country, in addition to providing more than 15,000 taxis and limousines, and managing 30,000 Parking for vehicles at the exhibition site, employing smart technologies, applications and intelligenceArtificial intelligence to facilitate the movement of visitors to the exhibition via metro, buses and taxis.

The Authority’s preparations to host this global event also included the implementation of the unified control center for transport and road systems, which is one of the largest and most modern control centers in the world, and the Dubai Center for Intelligent Traffic Systems, which is one of the most modern traffic control centers in the world in terms of employing smart technologies in traffic management. .

Al Tayer stressed that the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) worked from the first moment to announce Dubai’s winning bid to host the Expo 2020 to implement an integrated infrastructure of road networks and various transportation systems, to provide a unique, easy and fast transportation service for participants and visitors to the exhibition from inside and outside the country, so that the exhibition visit, as he wanted it His Highness, a special experience for all and an exceptional role in the history of Expo exhibitions.

Al Tayer said that the operation of the Expo 2020 Dubai Metro station will start on October 1, coinciding with the official opening of the Expo.

The Dubai Metro, with its red and green lines, will provide its services to passengers from Saturday to Wednesday from 5:00 am until 1:15 am, on Thursday from 5:00 am until 2:15 am, and on Friday from 8:00 am until 1:00 :15 after midnight.

The time of rushing during peak hours will be two minutes and 38 seconds, while the Dubai Tram will start providing its services from Saturday to Thursday, from 6:00 in the morning until 1:00 after midnight, and on Friday from 8:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the middle of the night.

The public transport bus service (Expo Buses) will operate from 6:30 in the morning and will continue until 90 minutes after the gates of the exhibition close.

The passenger service starts from the car parks to the three exhibition gates at 9:00 am until 90 minutes after closing the exhibition gates.

The bus service that transports visitors between the gates inside the exhibition (buses transporting the public), starts from 6:30 in the morning until 90 minutes after closing the exhibition gates.

Taxi service and electronic reservation continue to be provided around the clock.

The authority has implemented Route 2020 for the Dubai Metro, which extends from Jebel Ali Station on the Red Line to the Expo 2020 station, with a length of 15 km, and includes seven stations.

The route serves areas with a high population density of more than 270,000 people, and includes the parks areas, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investments Park, as well as the Expo 2020 Dubai site.

The route has an estimated capacity of 46,000 riders per hour in both directions, and the number of its users is expected to reach about 275,000 riders per day by 2030.

It is also expected that about 35,000 visitors per day will use the Expo 2020 station to reach the exhibition site during weekdays, and the number will rise to about 47,000 per day on weekends.

This number represents approximately 29% of the total expected daily visitors to the Expo.

The Expo 2020 station is distinguished by its unique design in the shape of the wings of an airplane, to show the city of Dubai's future launch towards innovation.

The Jumeirah Golf Estates station is the largest subway station in Dubai, with an area of ​​28,700 square meters, a length of 232 meters, and a capacity of 11,555 passengers per hour, during peak times, and about 250 thousand passengers per day.

The authority has also established nine public bus stations to serve Expo visitors, distributed in vital areas in Dubai: Al Ghubaiba, Etisalat, Al Baraha, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Dubai International Airport (Terminal 3), Palm Jumeirah, The Dubai Mall , The global village.

The authority divided the road projects into six phases, all of which were completed early last year, and included:

■ Development of the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Expo Street, by converting the former roundabout at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Expo Street into a bridge intersection that provides free traffic in each direction, increasing the number of Expo Street lanes from four to six in each direction, and constructing Two-way service routes, providing bridged free warp motions.

■ Implementation of two bridged intersections on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to secure the movement of entry and exit to and from the exhibition site, the first: the “Expo Intersection” and serves traffic coming from Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates, to enter the car parks at the exhibition site.

The second: “Al Maktoum Airport Intersection” serves traffic coming from Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates towards the exhibition site, in addition to 16 km of road works.

■ Development of the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with Expo Street.

■ Development of three intersections and the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from two lanes in each direction to five lanes in each direction.

■ Development of the intersection of Emirates Street with Expo Street, by converting the previous roundabout into a bridge intersection, providing free traffic in all directions, increasing the number of Expo Street lanes from four to six in each direction, with a length of three kilometers, developing Emirates Road with a length of approximately five kilometers, and constructing service methods.

■ Developing the Expo Street, by implementing bridges with a length of 2.6 km, and roads with a length of about three kilometers, and increasing the number of lanes of Expo Street from three to six lanes in each direction, with a length of three kilometers, with the addition of service roads to improve the traffic situation of existing roads, and raising the Expo Street at its intersection With Al-Asayel Street, with a bridge of 800 meters in length and a capacity of six lanes in each direction, and the construction of two other bridges to connect Expo Street to the service road in the region with a length of one kilometer, to provide a smooth movement to and from the exhibition site.

Latest buses

Buses dedicated to transporting Expo visitors are characterized by a high level of safety, luxury and quality.

The design of the buses took into account the presence of a low entrance to facilitate the movement of entry and exit, and the allocation of a place for people of determination, to make mass transportation the preferred option for transporting visitors to the exhibition.

The new generation

Al Ghubaiba Bus Station is characterized by a unique modular design that combines innovative and effective engineering design solutions, with the modern system in providing mass transportation services.

It is also characterized by its integration with the stations of mass transportation, which are the Dubai Metro, marine transportation, and taxis.

It includes office spaces, customer service spaces, shops and restaurants.

It includes 50 bus stops, 48 ​​car parks, 34 taxi stands, and 60 bike stands.

Taxis and limousines

The Roads and Transport Authority has provided 15,000 luxury taxis and limousines to serve the emirate and visitors to Expo 2020.
