"10 million French people have taken their booster dose to maintain their protection against the Covid, announced the Minister of Health Olivier Véran on Saturday evening.

New appointments will continue to open every day so that all eligible people can make their reminder on time, ”he tweeted.

The objective set by the government for this weekend has therefore been achieved.

Ten days ago, the government announced that all adults were now eligible for a booster dose, prompting an influx of appointment bookings.

No shortage of doses

For the Minister of Health, there is no logistical difficulty likely to prevent the smooth running of this recall campaign which aims at a "firewall effect" against the fifth wave of the epidemic.

Health officials reiterated on Friday that there would be no shortage of vaccine doses.

From January 15, the booster dose will be mandatory for 18-64 year olds so that their health pass remains valid.

This does not mean that the injection must necessarily have been made before this date which simply corresponds to the entry into force of the mechanism: from January 15, the pass of these people will be deactivated if they have not had their booster dose at most 7 months after the last injection.

Contamination and hospitalizations on the rise

During this time, the epidemic starts again.

More than 50,000 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in 24 hours, as the fifth epidemic wave continues to sweep over France, according to the latest figures released on Saturday by Public Health France.

51,624 new cases have been confirmed, against 49,858 the day before.

Over the last seven days (which smooths out the effects of non-working days) the average of new daily cases stands at 40,944, against less than 28,000 a week ago, testifying to the acceleration of this wave.

The number of hospitalized patients reaches 11,340.

The 10,000 threshold had not been reached since September 12.

There were 694 new admissions in 24 hours, and the number of critically ill patients in critical care wards reached 2,037, with 119 admissions in 24 hours.

Since the start of the epidemic at least 119,457 deaths have been recorded, including 113 in the last 24 hours, according to the health agency.
