Salman Rushdi, author of the novel 'The Devil's Poem', which sparked controversy over Islamic blasphemy, was attacked with a knife.



Rushdie was stabbed several times by a man on the stage of a lecture in New York State yesterday (12th) and was taken to the hospital for surgery.



The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene.



Rushdi, in his 1988 novel 'The Devil's Poem', said that he portrayed the Islamic Prophet Muhammad ungodly, and has received death threats from the Muslim world.
