This was announced by Deputy Head of the Office of the Head of State Yulia Kovaliv on her Facebook page.
She stated that “the law provides the necessary conditions for fulfilling Ukraine’s obligations regarding the separation of gas transportation activities and ensuring the activities of the gas transmission system operator in accordance with European law.”
Kovaliv added that “Ukraine is confidently moving towards European integration and is demonstrating its readiness for certification of the gas transmission system operator in accordance with the rules of the EU and the Third Energy Package.”
At the end of October, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that provides for the separation of the gas transportation system of Ukraine from the Naftogaz company.
On October 28, the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Alexander Novak, following consultations with Russia, the EU and Ukraine on gas, announced Moscow’s readiness to propose an extension of the existing gas transit agreement as a fallback.
According to him, if Kiev is ready to work under European law, Russia is also ready under this legislation to ensure gas transit from 2020.
The European Commission called on Russia and Ukraine to conclude an appropriate contract as soon as possible.
