“At the same time, we emphasize that no Japanese actions of this kind can change reality and cast doubt on Russian sovereignty over the southern Kuril Islands, which belong to our country legally on the basis of the Second World War,” Takhs quoted Zakharova as saying.
Earlier, a map with the Olympic flame route appeared on the Tokyo 2020 website, on which the South Kuril islands of Kunashir, Shikotan, Iturup and Habomai were included in Japan.
Zakharova suggested that such a move by the Japanese authorities would adversely affect bilateral relations.
