Apple cuts tariffs for old devices again - Pixabay

Apple customers who want to buy a new smartphone know this: you can return your old smartphone to get a discount on a future purchase. An interesting offer on paper, but not necessarily in practice, Apple does not necessarily offer large sums to consumers. The IT giant has just updated its recovery pricing grid. And as with each update of the table, the prices of used iPhones plummet.

For consumers, the amounts of the reductions applied are not always very attractive. When the Californian firm still offered there is little to take an iPhone Xs Max up to 490 euros, provided that it is in impeccable condition. Today, for this high-end smartphone up to a year and a half, Apple offers 430 euros, or a third of what it cost to buy.

The same phone can still earn double if the consumer chooses to sell it via a second-hand sales platform. The Apple offer is therefore not necessarily the most advantageous.

Some models will no longer be used

Updating prices, however, has a direct impact on prices in the second-hand market. Each iPhone loses a certain value each time the table is updated.

And for some devices, the price drop is drastic. The iPhone 8 Plus, 8 and 7 Plus, for example, are respectively worth only 220, 170 and 150 euros.

It should also be noted that the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and SE are no longer listed, which means that they no longer allow a reduction on the purchase of a new iPhone. Apple still offers to recover and recycle them for free. Needless to say, it will be much more interesting to resell them to an individual.
