Brazil won the under-17 World Cup at home by defeating Mexico 2-1 in the final on Sunday in Gama (center).
It was once again substitute Lazaro who delivered the selection auriverde, as in the semifinal against France (3-2). The young hopeful of the Flamengo club scored the winning goal in stoppage time (90th +3) to give Brazil its 4th title in this category.
The young Brazilians showed their character because as in the semifinals, when they were led 2-0 before reversing the situation, they once again conceded the first goal. Bryan Gonzalez has indeed opened the score of the head for Mexico shortly after the hour of play (66th).
Without being particularly brilliant, but with a lot of heart, the young Seleçao managed to equalize on a penalty converted by Kaio Jorge in the 84th minute.
And Lazaro finally gave the advantage to Brazil at the end of stoppage time by taking from the far post a center of Yan Couto in front of 14,000 spectators in delirium.
This is the first Brazilian under-17 title since 2003, having also been world champions in 1997 and 1999.
Brazil also takes its revenge from the 2005 U17 World Cup final in Peru when it was beaten by Mexico 3-0.
Despite its defeat, Mexico is impressive and remains one of the best teams in the world in this age group. In recent years they have won two titles, in 2005 and 2011, have played two other finals, in 2013 and 2019, and they also finished fourth in 2015.
France, for its part, took 3rd place in the competition by beating the Netherlands 3-1 in the small final.
