Japan's Shohei Ono (-73kg) has been irresistible to win a third World Championship title at one year of the 2020 Olympics on Tuesday in Tokyo, where Canadian judo has set gold in the world for the first time times of its history.

Ono (27) brings to Japan his third gold medal of the week of competition in the illustrious Nippon Budokan, who will host the Olympic judo events next summer.

The reigning Olympic champion and now triple world champion (2013, 2015 and 2019) has emerged victorious from his six fights of the day by ippon, the last at the expense of Azerbaijan's Rustam Orujov, N.1 world class, finally.

Ono has not been beaten on the international scene since December 2017, and has even lost once since early 2015 (51 wins in 52 fights).

In -57 kg, 23-year-old Christa Deguchi has marked the history of Canadian judo by giving her the first-ever world gold medal in her history by defeating Japanese Tsukasa Yoshida, outgoing world champion and N.1 world, in the golden score (waza-ari).

Defeated by Yoshida in the semi-finals, the reigning Olympic champion, Brazilian Rafaela Silva, consoled herself with bronze.
