The man behind the concept is the Indian-born Bikram Choudhury, 75. In the 70s, he came to the United States and became a super success among Los Angeles celebrities. Wearing short black sweatpants and an expensive wristwatch, he became rocky at his yoga classes and built a million business with 650 yoga centers.

40 degree heat

Bikram yoga is practiced in 40 degree heat. The strict 26 positions and two breathing exercises are performed for 90 minutes. After much sweat and effort, opportunities for weight loss and positive effects on diabetes, high blood pressure, insomnia and joint problems are promised.

When Gurun Bikram began teaching and certifying instructors from around the world, reports of sexual abuse, abuse of power and discrimination came. In a new documentary by Oscar-winning director Eva Orner, women appear and tell.

Suited for sex abuse

Since 2013, six women have sued Bikram Choudhury for sexual abuse and rape. Some of them have settled in private settlements.

Choudhury's former legal counsel, Micki Jafa-Bodden, has been sued in court. Choudhury was sentenced to pay SEK 70 million in damages, including for sexual harassment and for dismissing Jafa-Bodden on erroneous grounds. But instead of paying, he left the United States.

Denies the charges

Bikram Choudhury has denied all charges. In an interview in ABC 2016, he regrets that "all women love him". The documentary shows that he now leads courses in Mexico.
