The victory of the pair Roger Federer-Alexander Zverer on Jack Sock and Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-5, Friday, allowed the team Europe to lead in front of Rest of the world 3 to 1, at the end of the first day of the Tennis Laver Cup, held in Geneva (Switzerland).

Earlier in the day, American Sock defeated Fabio Fagnini of Italy 6-1, 7-6 (7/3) to sign his first win of the year and bring the rest of the world back to everywhere. Austrian Dominic Thiem having taken the best of Denis Shapovalov opening.

Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas (8th overall) helped Europe to take the lead by winning against Taylor Fritz 6-2, 1-6, 10-7.

The Europeans, coached by the former 1970s glory Bjorn Borg, are title holders and remain the big favorites of the 2019 edition. Especially since the Rest of the World team does not line any player ranked above from 20th place worldwide.

This is the third edition of the Laver Cup. Europe had won the first two editions, the last in 2018 in Chicago (USA) 13-8.
