Sun Yang, double world champion in South Korean Gwangju in August, is accused of sabotaging a doping test in September last year. The Chinese swimming star was released in January by the International Swimming Association Fina, which was appealed to Cas by the International Anti-Doping Agency Wada.

On Friday, he will be heard by the Sports Arbitration Court, Cas, in Montreux, Switzerland. A hearing that is open to the public, which is only the second time in history.

CAS announced today that Wada wants to see 27-year-old Sun Yang suspended for up to eight years for the sabotage, reports the AP. Sun earned a three-month suspension in 2014, after being tested positive.

If Wada wins, the triple Olympic champion misses the Tokyo 2020 championship.

Friday's trial is expected to last all day, but a verdict in the case is not expected to come until the beginning of next year.

Almost the entire swimming world has criticized him, one of them being Sarah Sjöström.
