Vox has registered in the Congress of Deputies an initiative for the repeal of the Law of Historical Memory under the argument that it is an "attack on political freedom, thought and chair", as well as an instrument to "divide "to the Spaniards. In line with the bill, the party led by Santiago Abascal has expressly refused to condemn Franco.

With the legislature apparently at the time of discount because of the political blockade to form a government, Vox hurries the deadlines to present in Congress some of its most media initiatives in the face of a possible electoral campaign. If last week was the shielding of the borders of Ceuta and Melilla, including the construction of two walls with Morocco, this Monday has been the turn of the Law of Historical Memory, another of its great ideological battle horses.

Vox has crossed out this "liberticide" law and has recriminated that its objective is to "impose" and punish "those who subscribe to the national vision of the PSOE," dividing citizens between "good and bad." "This law promotes division and hatred among Spaniards," stressed Iván Espinosa de los Monteros at a press conference in Congress, along with deputies Joaquín Robles and José María Figaredo .

For this reason, the Vox parliamentary spokesman has indicated that in the face of the "many injustices" committed with the change of street names and the withdrawal of a monument from all of Spain on account of the Historical Memory Law, from their formation they will expressly request that " reverse "the latest street name changes in many cities.

Vox has refused to condemn the Franco regime. "Vox does not condemn the progressive biennium, nor the peaceful turn of the parties of Sagasta and Canovas del Castillo, nor the revolution of 1934, nor that of the 31, nor the Civil War nor Francoism," said Espinosa de los Monteros. "This is a matter for historians and we are strong supporters of freedom and that everyone can give their opinions," he continued.

At his side, the deputy of Vox Joaquín Robles has apostilled that condemning a historical period is "inadmissible" from the "logical" point of view. And more, he said, because democracy is "the result of a process of transition of the regime itself," with elements of continuity such as the Criminal Code. "It makes no sense [to condemn] because we are heirs. It depends on the personal opinion of each one, but you can't take 40 years of Spain's history and put them in a garbage can," he delved into.

For the deputy of Vox, History has to be for specialists and has denounced that there is a law like the one of Memory that tries to "impose" a certain "unilateral vision".

Vox has not called into question the exhumations of victims of the Civil War and the Franco regime that are being carried out in line with the Memory law, but it has underlined that legislation such as the current one is not needed to carry them out. He has questioned the "set of interests" of the associations of Memory and grants.

In addition to the proposed law to repeal the Historical Memory regulations, Vox has accompanied the registry with a series of questions to the Government to examine the effects of the law in three fields: public acknowledgments and medals awarded for opposing Franco, aid economic given to the associations of Memory and the changes of streets and Francoist symbology throughout the country. Vox asks the Executive in the three blocks what is the cost they have had for public coffers and how many cases there are, as well as their breakdown.

Vox refuses to join a joint abstention

Vox separates itself from the Citizens' initiative to facilitate the investiture of Pedro Sánchez with an abstention along with the PP if the socialist leader accepts three conditions, although he celebrates it. Iván Espinosa de los Monteros has said that it is "very good idea" because PSOE, PP and Cs form the "coalition of the tricentrito". Which makes them three difficult games to "distinguish" and with "very similar" ideas. In front of them, there is Vox, with another political line. That is why it would not participate in joint abstention. "We will not be part of two reasons: because Sánchez has not called us and because we are something else, we are not part of the progressive or social democratic consensus," he stressed.
