Right in the middle of a February holiday, a tragic road accident occurred Saturday in the Var, at the Frejus toll booth on the A8 motorway, causing the death of four people. A total of six passengers were present in a minivan type vehicle. The two survivors were evacuated by helicopter to hospitals in Nice and Toulon. They were always this Sunday in absolute emergency.

Identification of bodies still in progress

"The vehicle hit a concrete island, rolled over and came across the taxiway at the toll gate," said Captain Peter Jones, responsible for rescue operations. "There was a big distortion of the passenger compartment," he continues at the microphone of Europe 1. Two of the victims were ejected during the accident.

According to initial observations, the vehicle arrived far too quickly at the toll barrier. One of the hypotheses of the cause of the accident would be a loss of control due to discomfort. Registered in the north, the vehicle could therefore have transported tourists, all aged between 60 and 80 years old. The identifications of the bodies are still in progress, while the Draguignan public prosecutor's office has taken up the investigation.
