On November 19, 1819, the National Prado Museum was opened in Madrid - one of the largest and most significant museums of European art in the world. The basis for his exposition was the collection of Spanish monarchs. The Prado Museum houses some of the most complete collections of paintings by Velazquez, Goya, Bosch and several other great artists. About 2.5 million visitors come to the Prado every year to enjoy these masterpieces. Accepting the Prado masterpiece exhibition at the State Hermitage Museum in 2011, Vladimir Putin described the works brought to Russia as “truly unique treasures from the collection of the main museum of Spain.”
