The United Arab Emirates has condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack on a wedding ceremony in the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday, reiterating its support for the Afghan government in the face of the threat of terrorism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement today that this cowardly attack on a civilian gathering and adopted by the terrorist organization "Daesh" is a serious reminder of the complex challenges faced by the Afghan government, which is working to enter a new phase of stability and security in the country.
She stressed that confronting the scourge of terrorism was a shared responsibility of all States seeking a more peaceful future for the Afghan people.
This attack and its innocent victims underscore the importance of multilateral efforts to reach a comprehensive peace agreement that would weaken the capacity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry expressed the UAE's condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
In Kabul, the Afghan Interior Ministry announced Sunday that the number of victims of the suicide attack that struck the wedding ceremony in Kabul to 63 killed and 182 injured.
Emergency departments at hospitals in the Afghan capital said they had received a total of at least 20 wounded, but photos released by the Interior Ministry showed the death toll could be much higher, especially as the photos clearly showed a number of bodies in a dining hall.
The blast occurred in a men's wing inside the wedding hall.
