The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially closed its case against Qatar for trade violations committed by the latter through the World Trade Organization's Dispute Settlement Body, after Qatar withdrew its discriminatory measures that caused its dispute with the UAE.

The State of Qatar has taken discriminatory measures towards goods coming from the UAE and its distributors, imposing a ban on them in May and June 2018, in violation of its obligations and commitments as a member of the World Trade Organization. Accordingly, the State of Qatar withdrew its embargo proceedings on March 31, 2019, and processed the claims in the dispute in respect of the UAE complaint.Therefore, the UAE notified the WTO of its wish to close its case against Qatar.

A spokesman for the United Arab Emirates Mission in Geneva said that Qatar's withdrawal of its discriminatory decision against the UAE products has fulfilled what is required from the UAE complaint and that the UAE reserves the right to take the necessary measures if Qatar violates its obligations and commitments within the World Trade Organization again. The UAE is committed to the WTO for its efforts to try to resolve the existing conflict and to ensure that its members respect their commitments.

In May and June 2018, Qatar issued directives effectively banning the distribution and sale of all UAE goods mainly in the Qatari market, including public health goods, in clear violation of Qatar's WTO commitments, and on January 28, 2019 On March 31, 2019, Qatar withdrew its discriminatory measures against UAE goods as a result of a complaint by the UAE.On 25 April 2019, Qatar announced that it had withdrawn its proceedings. On August 8, 2019, the UAE formally notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of the withdrawal of the complaint, as it served its purpose by responding to pressure from the UAE to complain about Qatar's explicit breach of WTO rules.
