While people affected by the typhoon No. 19 had been living for more than a month, the Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, moved to a facility equipped with heating facilities before the full winter.
In Koriyama City, over 7000 buildings were flooded due to the impact of Typhoon No. 19, and 298 people from 144 households are still evacuated in 10 evacuation centers.
Of these, the Takase Elementary School gymnasium, where 21 people from 13 households evacuated, moved to a public hall with heating and tatami mats in front of a full-scale winter when the cold was severe.
On the 21st, seven city officials loaded pre-packaged luggage and cardboard beds onto a light truck and carried them to a public hall about 200 meters away.
The evacuated people were laying futons and unpacking their luggage when their luggage was brought in.
According to the city, the move is scheduled to be completed within 21 days.
A woman in her 70s who had been evacuated said, “The gymnasium was cold even when slippers were worn, so tatami mats are good. I still want to go home early.”
Koriyama City is also considering moving at another elementary school evacuation center in the city, and health maintenance has become an issue as evacuation in an unfamiliar environment prolongs.
