The M6 and TF1 groups announced Wednesday they have acquired from UEFA the rights to broadcast in France the Euro-2020 football, whose matches will be played from 12 June to 12 July.
Both will share, in exclusivity in clear, the 23 best posters of the competition including 12 pool matches - including the opening match and the matches of the French team -, as well as five round of 16 , three quarterfinals, semifinals and the final, "they said in a statement.
However, they did not indicate the amount they will have to pay.
The main broadcaster of Euro-2016 was the beIN Sports encrypted bouquet, while TF1 and M6 shared the broadcast of the matches in clear.
According to figures then reported by the press, beIN would have disbursed 60 million euros for all meetings of the Euro-2016, while TF1 and M6 had paid 25 million each to broadcast a portion of the matches in the clear.
The Euro-2020, which comes 60 years after its first edition, will take place in 12 European cities (Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, London, Munich, Rome and St. Petersburg).
The drawing of the table of the competition will take place on Saturday.
The announcement came as sports broadcasters fiercely disputed this week the French television rights of the Champions League for the period 2021-2024, coveted by the outgoing RMC Sport, beIN Sports, Canal + and a newcomer, Mediapro.
This tender, essential but risky for financially unstable channels, must end Wednesday, deadline imposed by UEFA to companies interested in the purchase of French rights to future editions of European club competitions, C1 in the lead.
