Belgium's Dylan Teuns won the sixth stage of the Tour de France on Thursday, July 11, ahead of Italian Giulio Ciccone after a lively final at the top of Planche-des-Belles-Filles. The Italian rider from the Trek-Segafredo team missed the stage victory in the last moments but took the yellow jersey - which was on the shoulders of Julian Alaphilippe - for six seconds.
The French can feed regrets for this final altitude. Long at a reasonable distance from the day's breakaways to keep his yellow jersey one more day, Julian Alaphilippe lost his first place in the overall standings despite an acceleration a few hundred meters from the finish line.
Behind Dylan Teuns and Giulio Ciccone, who were both taking part in the Tour de France for the first time, the Welsh champion Geraint Thomas - was the best of favorites, finishing fourth. His acceleration in the last few hectometres allowed him to take time to all his opponents in the overall standings.
The Frenchman Romain Bardet - distanced in the last kilometer - is the main loser of the day, with 1 min 9 sec behind the Welsh at the end of the sixth leg. Italian Vincenzo Nibali and, to a lesser extent, Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk have also been left behind.
