French spending to heat their homes reached an average of 1,696 euros in 2019, according to a survey by energy renovation specialist Effy, reports Le Figaro . This cost varies depending on the type of energy used for heating.

Last year, the French who depended on fuel oil spent an average of 1,913 euros. For gas, the bill was 1,446 euros and for electricity: 1,802 euros. The consumers who are doing the best are those who heat themselves with wood since they only spent 759 euros.

The inhabitants of Ile-de-France pay the most

However, this classification changes when it is brought back to the heated surface in square meters. If wood remains the most profitable energy, costing 5.8 euros per square meter, it is followed by gas (11.7 euros) then fuel oil (12.9 euros). Electricity comes further behind with 15.9 euros.

This energy cost also fluctuates according to the region of residence. The residents of Île-de-France are the French who have paid the largest sum to heat themselves (1,864 euros on average in 2019). They are notably followed by the inhabitants of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (1,802 euros), Normandy (1,784 euros), Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (1,756 euros) and the Grand Est region (1,745 euros).

Renovation grants for modest households

Three regions stand out, with an amount of less than 1,600 euros per year. Brittany (1,568 euros), Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (1,566 euros) and Occitanie, where the inhabitants paid only 1,524 euros, which is 340 euros less than those in Ile-de-France.

Aid for energy renovation exists for the poorest households. The government recently launched a new bonus to replace the previous tax credit for the energy transition, reports Le Figaro .
