Members of the Rousseau platform say 'no' at the electoral break at the next regional elections in Emilia Romagna and Calabria. The M5s will participate in electoral competitions in the two regions, scheduled for January 26th. The Yes were 8.025 corresponding to 29.4% of the voters. The No were 19,248 corresponding to 70.6%.

27,273 preferences were expressed out of a total of 125,018 eligible to vote. The vote was certified by the Notary who guaranteed its regularity.

Di Maio
"In Emilia Romagna and in Calabria we will present ourselves and the parliamentarians and regional councilors have asked me to run alone. Some had expressed doubts and even opposition with respect to voting on our platform. But we are the 5 Star MoVement and this is what we do when we have to make an important decision ". Thus Luigi Di Maio commented on facebook the result of the vote on the Rousseau platform with which the members said no to the electoral break.

"We must all be happy - he continues - of the result of today's vote. It was necessary to make this vote because many, even people who made the history of the Movement, expressed their doubts about their participation in the vote at this historic moment and "There were so many strange backstories in the newspapers. This is why we decided, even with Beppe, to leave this decision to all the members who gave us a clear and very strong mandate: we must participate in regional elections with all our strength. And that is what we will.

The base defeats the vertices
For the first time in the history of the 5 Star Movement, the activist base has disavowed a decision by the leaders. The Rousseau platform has rejected the proposal of Luigi Di Maio to take an "electoral break" in view of the regional elections of January 26 in Emilia-Romagna and Calabria. The activists want to be there and want to count themselves, even if, after the Umbrian beating, the polls do not show a great state of health for the 5 Star Movement. The rejection came under the crossfire of the fierce opposition of the territories, but also of the inner frond, which also includes the former ministers Danilo Toninelli and Barbara Lezzi. The symbol launched by Beppe Grillo will therefore, against the will of his political leader, be on the regional ballot papers in January. Now they will have to be found, both in Emilia-Romagna (where they will leave again from the outgoing councilors) and in Calabria (where the most accredited name is that of the teacher Francesco Aiello) people willing to put their faces in an electoral campaign in which, probably, the support of the movement at the central level will not be enthusiastic, despite Di Maio's reassurances: "I don't know what result we will achieve - he said - but I will be on the front line as always and I will not spare myself".

The controversy
The opposition against the decision of the top management, with a convocation of the vote that caught everyone a bit of surprise, started from the two territories involved. The coordinator of the regional campaign in Calabria, Paolo Parentela, has resigned. In Emilia-Romagna the regional group has invited to vote for the 'no' at the electoral break, the regional councilor Silvia Piccinini has spoken of "an unacceptable mockery" and the vice-president of the Chamber Maria Edera Spadoni has put at the head of the protest , considering the decision a mistake. So on January 26th we go to the vote and the M5s will measure itself with the two coalitions.

The vote on Rousseau
The question was not, tout court, whether or not to participate in the regional elections, on the basis, as explained in these days by the leaders of the Movement, of the actual 'readiness' or 'maturity'. The ratio of the online consultation was defined by the Blog delle Stelle announcing that "from 12.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 21 November, the members of the 5-star Movement would be called to vote on the Rousseau platform to decide whether the 5-star Movement would have to observe a electoral break until March to prepare the States General by not taking part in the January elections in Emilia-Romagna and Calabria ". Following what happened in the past - and with a sort of mirror effect between the vote and its effect - "voting yes", the member would have chosen to make the electoral break ", while" by voting no, the member would have indicated not to carry out the electoral break by participating in the elections ".
