As the diplomat noted, the Ukrainian government “is persistently looking for ways to end this war,” UNIAN reports.

“And I think that on the part of the Ukrainian leadership it was a very bold step - to call Putin and other leaders of the Norman Four countries in order to demand another meeting,” he said.

According to him, such steps by President Vladimir Zelensky allowed Ukraine to demonstrate the moral superiority of its position in the war in the Donbass.

On August 7, Zelensky said that he had a telephone conversation with Putin, during which he discussed the situation in the Donbass.

As noted in the Kremlin, during the discussion of the topic, the importance of strict observance of the ceasefire was emphasized.

Zelensky later discussed with the French leader Emmanuel Macron a meeting in the Norman format.

On August 9, US President Donald Trump expressed the hope that Zelensky will be able to agree with Putin on the situation in the Donbass.
