Iranian President Hassan Rohani reacted on Sunday (September 22nd) after the announcement of US troop reinforcements in the Gulf after Saudi attacks on Iran.

Speaking at the opening of a military parade in Tehran, he announced that Iran would present "in the coming days" to the UN a cooperation plan to ensure the security "of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Ormuz and the Arabian Sea "between riparian countries.

"Your presence has always brought pain and misery to the region," the Iranian president warned "those who want to hold Iran accountable" for the region's ills. "The further you get away from our region, the safer it will be," he said in a live broadcast by state television.

"From our point of view, the security of the Persian Gulf comes from within, the security of the Persian Gulf is endogenous, the security of the Strait of Hormuz is endogenous, foreign forces are a source of trouble and insecurity for our people. and for the region, "he added.

"The hand of friendship and fraternity"

President Rohani has also indicated once again that his country is extending "the hand of friendship and fraternity" to the other countries bordering the Gulf. The region is experiencing a "sensitive moment of historical significance," he said.

Alluding to Arab Gulf residents with whom Iran's relations are particularly strained, such as Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, Hassan Rohani added: "We are even prepared to ignore their past mistakes, because today the situation is such that the enemies of Islam and the region, that is to say America and Zionism want to misuse our divisions. "

On the contrary, during the United Nations General Assembly which opens on September 24 in New York, Iran will present a regional cooperation plan, called "Hope" and intended to ensure the security of the Gulf, the Strait of Ormuz and the Arabian Sea "with the help of the countries of the region," added the Iranian president without further details.
